In this impassioned lecture/workshop, flutists Christine Beard and Marie Bennett will discuss and perform excerpts from works for flute composed over the last decade sparked by current social, political, and environmental injustices. Driven by a fiery commitment to human rights and the urgent call for transformation, these works seek to inspire dialogue and ignite revolution through the power of music. Christie and Marie will lead the audience through a poignant journey where every note becomes a rallying cry for justice and a testament to the indomitable spirit of advocacy through music. The pair will provide the audience with historical context and resources, as well as a curated list of relevant works for flutists who wish to program music as a form of activism.
